Simplicity is what this dish is all about.  Depending on your appetite, it can be a meal in itself or a great side dish.  I made this for the first time a few days ago and I simply love it.  I started this website to improve my basic cooking skills so I thought making meat and potato croquettes was a great, easy way to begin my endeavors and I was right on the money.  My girlfriend, I can tell you was a bit surprised when she arrived home from work to see dinner was already on the table.

How to make “Beef and Potato Croquettes”

Ingredients

  • 200g minced beef
  • 4 potatoes
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1 desert spoon butter
  • 1/2 onion
  • Flour
  • 1 egg
  • Bread crumbs
  • Vegetable oil

Method

  1. Peel the potatoes and boil them till cooked.  While the potatoes are boiling, finely dice the onion and fry.
  2. Mash the potato and combine with the onion, pepper, butter and minced beef into a large bowl.  Mix thoroughly and allow to cool a little.  While cooling, beat the egg in a separate bowl.
  3. Using your hands, make little “hamburgers” with the mixture and cover them with flour.  After this, dip them into the egg and cover with bread crumbs.
  4. Heat the oil in a frying pan to medium and cook the croquettes till they are gold and crispy.
  5. Finally, drain the oil using oil paper and serve with salad.
