Meat Sauce Bread in your Rice Cooker
Bread cooked using a rice cooker you say? A little odd, but very convenient for millions of Japanese who are a little stretched for space (myself included!). It`s uncommon for many Japanese people to have a proper oven due to their size so instead other methods of baking bread are usually necessary. The closest thing for most Japanese people to an oven is a toaster oven; same size as a microwave yet fully equipped with a million gadgets and modes.
If someone ever said “You don`t need an oven to survive”, then they were spot on.
…wish I had an oven personally though.
Ingredients
- 200g self raising flour
- 100g pancake mix powder
- 170 ml warm water
- 1.5 dessert spoons butter
- 3g salt
- 3g yeast
- Meat sauce
- Parmesan cheese
Method
- Combine all the above ingredients excluding the meat sauce and cheese into a large bowl. Mix and kneed well, using a little extra flour if you find the dough is a little sticky.
- Place the dough into your rice cooker, set it to the “bread” setting and cook for 90 minutes.
- After 40 minutes have passed, remove the dough and tear into 5 or 6 pieces. Stretch out each chunk of dough and place some meat sauce and Parmesan cheese on top and wrap the dough in on itself.
- Place each piece back into the rice cooker for 25 minutes. Turn over for the last remaining 25 minutes and you`re done. Serves 4.
