Milk French Toast with Peppered Ham and Mustard

Lazy Sunday morning, a warm lemon tea drink and hot milk French toast…I couldn`t imagine a more perfect start to my day while laying beneath the kotatsu on a cold winters morning.  This quick yet delicious snack only took around 6 minutes in total to make and I think you`ll agree that it`s pretty straight forward.  Make your lazy Sunday a little on the French side, but don`t leave the kitchen without that knife and fork handy.

Ingredients

  • 150ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Slices of cheese
  • 4 Slices of thick bread
  • Peppered Ham
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • Butter

Method

  1. Mix some mayonnaise together with the mustard in a small bowl.  Personally, I prefer roughly 3 parts mayo to 1 part mustard.
  2. Beat the egg into a separate large bowl and pour in the milk.  Give it a quick mix.
  3. Dip a slice of bread into the large bowl, allowing the bread to fully soak up the milk-egg mixture.  Remove it and place the peppered ham along with the mayo-mustard mix and cheese on top.
  4. Fully soak another slice of bread, place it on top and fry on both sides using butter in the frying pan.
  5. Repeat steps three and four.  Serves 2.

In addition to the ingredients, I also prefer a light sprinkle of salt on top to enhance the flavour.  With or without it though, I`m very certain you`ll enjoy this snack.

Actually, I haven`t got my new camera yet. A kotatsu, and I probably should create a link to one, is a Japanese-style mini table-top where you sit with your legs underneath, which is covered in a special blanket and has an inbuilt heater inside. Totally perfect for Winter.
